Drug trafficking: Aviation security is collective responsibility –Arik MD

As stakeholders and professionals continue to comment on the arrest of two Arik Air crew members in Heathrow, London, the United Kingdom last week, the management of the airline has described the security of aviation industry as a collective responsibility.

Speaking on the issue yesterday in Lagos, the Managing Director of the airline, Mr. Chris Ndulue, described drug trafficking as a breaking of law, which he said no airline would encourage its workers to indulge in.

To checkmate the nefarious activities among its workers, Ndulue said the management put different security measures in place, but decried that despite the measures, some workers still violated the rules.

He, however, said that the airline would not rest on its oars in order to reduce the dastardly act among its workers.

Ndulue said: “This is a breaking of the law. The airline can’t tell any of its workers to willfully break the law. We have put in a lot of equipment to ensure security, but once in a while, some workers willfully break the laws.

“It has nothing to do with the airline.

That is why the UK authorities are not talking about Arik, but the arrested suspects. We know things can happen at the airside.

The fight against drug trafficking is a collective efforts from all security agencies and all the users of the airports.

“I won’t sit down here and say it will not happen again, but we just want to appeal to the workers that this is not good and drugs destroy human lives.”
