Air France planning to axe another 2'500-3'000 jobs

Air France is planning a new round of job cuts with between "2'500 and 3'000" positions in its medium-haul sector to be affected, the secretary general of the CGT Air France union, has disclosed. 

Under the a voluntary redundancy plan, roughly 2'000-2'200 employees involved in ground operations would be affected with the rest coming from the commercial and technical flight crews.

The French carrier presented it plans on July 31 to the labour council in which it outlined its planned additional savings measures needed to restore profitability. Should the cuts go through, Air France-KLM will have cut over 10'000 jobs in the last 4 years.

A restructuring programme implemented in the past year and a half at Air France has already beared fruit with earnings in the second quarter of 2013 up with an operating profit of EUR79million posted.
