Argentine airline orders 20 737s from Boeing

Argentina's flag airline, Aerolineas Argentinas, has agreed to order 20 Next Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft to expand its fleet.

The order is worth $1.8 billion at list prices, though discounts to those prices are common. The aircraft will be built in Boeing's Renton plant.

The airline already operates a fleet of 26 Boeing 737s. Aerolineas Argentinas has a long history of o
perating Boeing aircraft. It does operate planes made by Boeing rival Airbus on long-haul routes from the South American country."This is a landmark order for our company, both in the number of aircraft and in what they signify for our fleet," said Mariano Recalde, the airline president. "This agreement is a key part of a greater plan to renew our fleet and prepare our operations to accommodate growing demand. The Boeing Next-Generation 737-800, which has more seats than our current single-aisle fleet, will give us more flexibility to operate both domestic and regional routes."

The Boeing 737-800 is the middle-sized version of the 737 line. In typical seating configurations, the plane seats about 170 passengers.
