Bangkok Airways flight takes detour due to pressure system

A Bangkok Airways' domestic flight bound for Lampang took a detour to Chiang Mai on Sunday morning because of unsuitable weather for safe landing.

The 70-seat airplane was scheduled to land at Lampang airport at 7.50am but it could not penetrate the massive pressure system, thick fog and clouds. The pilot was forced to take a detour and temporarily land at Chiang Mai.
Tiwa Phanmaisee, chief of the Meteorological Office in Lampang, said his office had closely reported the weather situation to the aviation control tower after discovering that the pressure system was only 1,000 metres above the ground. The airplane needs a visibility of at least 1,500 metres for safe landing.

He said the weather condition was very unstable in Lampang.

He said the pressure system, thick fog and clouds rose to about 1,800m above the ground about an hour late. The Meteorological Office then told the Bangkok Airways pilot to resume the flight. The flight landed in Lampang safely.
