Ghana's Africa World Airlines eyes a Nigerian AOC

Africa World Airlines  is eyeing a Nigerian Air Operators Certificate to allow it to operate domestic flights within the country.

Ghana's B&FT newswire reports that the airline, a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines, will acquire two additional aircraft before year end, to add to its two ERJ-145s. Flights from Accra to Lagos are now scheduled for late November while Abuja is slated for mid-December.

Freetown is also planned. “We will go and get the Nigerian AOC, and we will operate domestic flights in Nigeria,” Mr. Apiigy Afenu, Chief Operating Officer of AWA said. Operations are currently restricted to domestic Ghanaian flights.
