Lufthansa bemoans lack of viable Nigerian airlines to partner with

Lufthansa has lamented the lack of suitable airlines in Nigeria with whom it can partner, CEO, Christoph Franz, said in an interactive Q&A session with journalists at the Lufthansa Aviation Academy in Frankfurt, Germany last week.

Mr Franz said that despite his airline's services to Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt Omagwa, greater penetration into the underserved Nigerian market was needed. “There is need for a viable airline in Nigeria for Lufthansa to partner with,” said Franz. Lufthansa currently has an MRO agreement with Arik Air. A potential contender could come from former Camair-Co Executive Alex Van Der Elk who is said to be spearheading a French-Nigerian LCC initiative aimed at providing Nigeria with cheap, safe and reliable air services before the end of 2014.
