If you’re trying to cross each and every airline off your travel to-do list, then we have bad news, as there’s another carrier that you’ll need to add it your list. Kalahari Airways is thinking about doing the nonstop thing to here and there, and they’re basing their operations in Botswana. We’re thinking that they might just be the real deal too, as they’ve got some stories about them in the news, it sounds like they have an airplane, and they even have a website—that they might have borrowed from GeoCities.
The plan is for Kalahari Airways to fly between Cape Town and London-Gatwick at some point early next year, but just note that there will be a little stopover in Gaborone in either direction—that’s where Botswana comes into the picture. The airline is working to finalize the details of their airplane acquisitions, but it sounds like they’re scooping up three Boeing 747-400s from Qantas. Things are still very much in the works with many moving pieces, as it sounds like Kalahari Airways is even considering some crowd sourcing to bring in a little extra start-up cash.
Their website—we use that term loosely—suggests that their new service in and out of Cape Town will help passengers avoid the lengthy delays found when dealing with the airport in Johannesburg. As for the up in the air experience they’re promising “super luxury with full business class layout is at your service” aboard those Boeing 747s.
We’ll keep you posted on what the goings on from Kalahari Airways, but for now it sounds like there’s a lot of work ahead of them in the next few months.
