Norwegian submits papers to establish new carrier

Norwegian has submitted an application to the Norwegian civil aviation authority, Luftfartstilsynet, to establish a new lower cost operator, tentatively named Norwegian Air Norway AS.

According to various reports in the Norwegian press, the airline's raison d'être is to counter the growing tide of budget carriers, Ryanair in particular, that have begun to affect the Norwegian travel market.

Norwegian's Chief Operating Officer, Asgeir Nyseth, says that should the airline become a reality, its aircraft, like those of its big brother, Norwegian Long Haul, will likely be registered abroad and a European AOC sought to allow for lower operating costs and more flexibility regarding domestic flights in EU countries.
