Transavia suspends Sharm El Sheikh flights over terrorist threats

Transavia Airlines has suspended, with immediate effect, flights from Amsterdam to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt after the Dutch security service, AIVD, reportedly received information pertaining to a potential terrorist attack.

The attack would likely have involved Surface-to-Air missiles being fired at an inbound Transavia flight by unidentified radical militias. According to DutchNews, the AIVD passed on the information to both Transavia and Arke Fly which promptly suspended flights for two weeks "at the least".

Other flights to Hurghada, Luxor and Marsa Alam are unaffected by the development. Arkefly is due to resume flights to the Red Sea resort on October 27 and is currently studying the situation.
