Airline axes five routes after a business review

A Castle Donington-based airline has decided to axe five routes and pull out of three UK bases following a review of its operations. BMI Regional, which is headquartered at the Pegasus Business Park, next to East Midlands Airport, has confirmed that it is pulling out of Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh airports.

Routes affected are Manchester to Edinburgh and Antwerp; Birmingham to Billund; and Edinburgh to Copenhagen and Brussels. BMI Regional employs around 400 people. The airline says there will be no net job losses as a result.
The move comes a year after the firm was launched as a fully independent airline after being bought by Sector Aviation Holdings for £8 million. An airline spokesman said: "We have started consultations with affected employees, including the opportunity to move to one of our other crew bases."

The affected routes will stop operating between November and January. BMI Regional said it would be in contact with passengers booked beyond these dates.
