UAE’s national airline, Etthad Airways, has begun featuring live television broadcasts on their flights allowing passengers to keep up with the news from around the world.
The Abu Dhabi based airline is currently showcasing BBC World News, BBC Arabic, Euronews and Sport 24 with plans to add CNBC, Japan’s NHK World Premium, and CNN to the list during the month of November.
The first big event the TV in the sky will cover is the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will be held on Sunday at Yas Marina Circuit. Passengers can also expect to see the U.S Grand Prix airing on flights on Nov. 17, and Brazil Gran Prix on Nov. 24.
“We are delighted to broadcast this weekend’s Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on many of our aircrafts, ensuring that passengers who are flying on race day won’t miss any of the action from Yas Marina Circuit,” said Peter Baumgartner, chief commercial officer of the airline, in a statement posted on the airline’s website.
The airline said it also plans to broadcast the ATP World Tour Finals, English Premier League and German Bundesliga matches, and Euroleague Basketball.
In 2014 more sports coverage is on the agenda such as the Winter Olympics, the Master from Augusta and Ryder Cup golf, and the FIFA World Cup from Brazil.
“In-flight entertainment is a key part of the guest travel experience and the introduction of the eight live channels, from brands such as Sky News Arabia, CNN and the BBC, as well as top global action on Sport 24, will be a fantastic addition to Etihad Airways’ flights,” Baumgartner added.
