Kenya Airways CEO questions logic of buying Boeing

Kenya Airways CEO, Titus Naikuni, has reportedly "questioned" the logic in ordering further aircraft from Boeing given that his airline is unable to operate flights to the United States.

Speaking during the recent delivery ceremony at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta for the Kenyan national carrier's first B777-300(ER), 5Y-KZZ, Bloomberg quotes Mr Naikuni as saying: “I don’t see the point of buying aircraft from Boeing, then you don’t allow us to get into the U.S.”

Despite recent moves to improve the country's aeronautical infrastructure, legislation and supervisory institutions, Kenya is still listed as Category 2 by the US Federal Aviation Administration. Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) reportedly planned to launch services to East Africa in 2009 only to be thwarted by Washington citing safety concerns.
