Workforce wage disputes discouraging investors in Air Zimbabwe

Air Zimbabwe  is scaring potential foreign investors away with its legacy of unresolved employee salary disputes. During a Parliamentary Portfolio Inquest, Zimbabwe's NewsDay quotes Transport and Infrastructural Development ministry secretary Munesushe Munodawafa as saying investors had shown keen interest in the struggling national carrier:

“We have quietly tried to discuss partnerships with potential investors who do not want their names to be mentioned and their key message was that they cannot partner with a company which is not operating,” Munodawafa said.

“I have talked to five international airlines and almost all of them said they wanted to partner with an airline that is operating and basically they were also saying we should sort out the labour issues,” he said. Air Zimbabwe is currently tied down in court in Harare over USD40 million owed in back-wages to its workers and USD140million owed to various creditors.
