Malaysia's Star reports that despite being established over two years ago, Caterham has been unable to obtain an Air Operators Certificate and is in talks with Berjaya for this reason. It had planned to offer “super-premium” services to Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Singapore Changi using two CRJ-700s.
For its part, Berjaya Air, owned by Berjaya Vacations Club, has also been mulling an entry into the business class market and may consider going it alone should the tie up with Caterham fall through. In terms of dates, the newly constituted airline may begin operations as early as March next year.
Caterham Jets’ initial plan is to serve a largely domestic route network at first along with Singapore Changi. Thereafter, it will gradually expand its scheduled business class flights to include Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok and even Shanghai from its Kuala Lumpur Subang hub.
