SriLankan Airlines will join oneworld in 2014 |
The carrier will also be focused on its entry into the oneworld airline alliance for the most part of 2014; expecting to join in March or April once the lengthy joining process is completed.
Along the way chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe hopes all its services can operate on a daily basis at minimum and will continue to update its fleet.
“Sri Lanka Airlines has come a long way and should be the preferred airline in Asia in three years’ time,” he told Travel Daily. “Business is growing and the UK and European markets are better than what they were.”
Sri Lankan Airlines will also continue to use its name to promote charities in its home country.
The airline has recently helped out cricketer Ian Botham on his walk across the country for charity, which, when speaking to Wickremasinghe last week, had raised more than GBP31,000.
The airline also launched a new book with proceeds going to whale and dolphin.
